FAQ’s

I played for the club last year do I have to Re Register?

  • Yes. You will need to log in and re-register at the beginning of each new season

How do I work out what age group my child will be playing in?

  • The official version is that you take the age of the player at December 31 the previous year, and that is the age group that they will be playing in.  If the player is 12 years old as at the 31st of December 2016, then that player will play in the Under 13s in 2017.  The Registrar has some leeway to either play a player down 1 year or up 2 years in normal circumstances.

My child has a disability can he/she still play?

  • If required the registrar can apply to the QCSA for a player to play down to a lower age group to allow for a player with disabilities to play with peers that are better matched in physical abilities. Please contact the registrar at registrar@nunwavsoccer.orgto discuss your situation.  The Registrar has some leeway to either play a player down 1 year or up 2 years in normal circumstances.  We can also recommend the Brisbane Paralympic Football Program run by Jay Larkins out of John Oxley Reserve at Murumbah Downs.

How many players in a Team?

  • This all depends on the age group:
    • Under 6, 7 and 8 have up to 9 players in a team (we recommend 8) with 6 players on the field at any time.
    • From Under 9 to Under 14 there are 15 players allowed per team with 11 on the field at any time.
    • U15/16 Boys and Girls, Under 18 Boys, Senior Men and Women, Under 30’s and Under 40’s are allowed up to 20 players in a team with 11 on the field at any time

When will I be training?

  • Parents get together on Muster Day (TBA) and decide amongst themselves when the most suitable training time is. As we have negligible lighting available most training will be over by sunset. Most training sessions are held at Marchant Park

When will I be playing?

  • All games are played on Saturdays with the exception of Over 30 and Over 40 teams these are usually on a Friday night. There may be some games that need to be rescheduled and held on a weeknight (never Sunday) to allow for wet weather etc.
  • Generally U6 to U12 games will be played before noon.
  • U13 to U15/16 will be mid morning to early afternoon.
  • Kick off for U18 and Senior Men and Women is generally from 1.00pm through to 7:00pm.

How far will I have to travel?

  • This all depends on the age group:
    • Under 6 to Under 10 play in a Zonal competition. As we are in the North Zone all of our games are on the North side of the Brisbane River.  This generally means Bridgeman Downs to North Lakes.
    • All of the other age groups will be playing anywhere from Caboolture to Fernvale or Boonah. Generally the worst case is an hours drive each way. At least half of the games will always be home games played at Marchant Park, Chermside.
    • For the distant games it is often helpful to car pool where possible

Who Coaches the players?

  • The coaching staff is taken from the pool of parents on the team.
  • Opportunities are made available for parents that are coaching for the club to obtain FFA qualifications through certificate courses that are available at limited times through the year. If you are interested in coaching please let us know as early as possible in the season so that we can make arrangements.
  • If you know of someone outside the direct family that is interested in coaching please let us know so that we can organise a Blue card if necessary. Senior teams in particular are best benefitted by having a coach that is not a playing member of the team.
  • All parents that coach for us are given a $50.00 discount on membership the following year as a thank you.

Who Manages the players?

  • As with Coaches the team Manager is taken from the pool of parents of the team. The manager has the job of being the team communicator and is responsible for organising the half time fruit roster and jersey cleaning roster each week. They also are the interface between the club and the team for important messages and wet weather information.
  • All parents that act as manager for the year are given a $50.00 discount on membership the following year as a thank you.

What is covered with my fees and what else will I have to pay for?

  • Your club membership fees cover player insurance, game and referees fees for the fixtures season and also for the club *photos and *trophies (*juniors only). The only extra that you will have to pay is for shorts, socks, shin pads and boots.

What playing gear will I have to buy myself or my child?

  • We supply the team jersey and balls but you will need to buy the following:
    • Club shorts
    • Club socks
    • Shin pads
    • Soccer boots
